I wonder if, 35 years from now, people will remember the iPhone craze the way we remember the "CB Radio" craze of the 1970s? That is, hardly at all. Well, the CB was a big deal for a few weeks in the 1970s, popularized by C.W. McCall's freak hit "Convoy" and the first two Smokey and the Bandit films. If you just happen to be the sort of person looking for an album with songs exclusively about CB Radio culture, then Radio Shack's exclusive LP All Ears, boasting "10 New and Original Hits with a CB Theme," is the record for you (though they use the term "hits" very liberally here). Most of this material is pretty lousy, especially "Hey Shirley (This is Squirrely)," which employs the high-tech recording techniques of The Chipmunks. One interesting track is Oscar Ray's "L.J.'s CB Radio," a spoken-word narrative that works in just about every CB radio slang-term known to mankind. This record is good for a lot of laughs and very real nostalgic value. And the back cover comes with a glossary of CB radio terms! :-)
