5 Reasons To Shop For Vinyl Online

Posted by Josh Dolin on

These days almost everyone's aware that vinyl is far superior to any other music format - there's something organic and warm about vinyl that digital sound or an mp3 simply can't produce. Not to mention that vinyl covers just look cool, making records an even more attractive purchase for both collectors and casual music lovers.

If you're a collector of vinyl or simply love the sound that vinyl produces, then you should consider looking for your favorite albums at an online record store. The following are five reasons why you should buy vinyl records online. Don't get me wrong, old school record stores rock. But finding the best place to buy vinyl records online is well worth it instead of trekking across the city to that hole-in-the-wall antique store that has a single crate full of scratched up Christmas song compilation records!

1. Online record stores have bigger selections

If you buy your music on vinyl, then you know how difficult it can be to find a physical location with a decent selection. Since most records stores have disappeared over the years, you will probably have to scour local used book shops and antique stores in order to find records. Finding anything decent can be a bit of a challenge. Even if you have a store that is fully dedicated to selling vinyl near where you live, it's probably not going to have as big of a selection as an online record store. An online record store will typically stock a huge selection of albums. One of the reasons for this is because they have more access to new inventory than physical locations, which typically depend on customers coming in to sell their vinyl collections.

2. It's easier to find what you're looking for

If you've got a wish list full of albums that you are looking for, then it's going to take you years to find anything on it if you are only shopping at physical locations. Even if you have a record store in your area that has a relatively large selection, you're still going to have to spend some time flipping through their stock in search of what you're looking for. With an online record store, you can just type in a search for the album you want to buy in order to see if it's in stock.

3. Records are in better shape

Vinyl stocked at physical locations are often stored without care unless they are being sold in an actual record store. This means that it's difficult to find a record that isn't scratched to pieces, much less a sleeve that remains in good shape. Because online stores don't have to worry about displaying their records - and because they are knowledgeable about what it takes to keep them in good shape, it's much easier to find records that are in good condition online. The new ones also probably haven't been handled with greasy, sticky and dirty fingers :).

4. Records are more affordable

Discounting those bargain $1 records that probably function better as frisbees found in bargain bins, records in good shape can be found for better prices online. This is because unlike record stores, online stores don't have as much overhead - they don't have to pay to rent out a storefront, hire a knowledgeable staff or pay for utilities.

5. It's more convenient to shop at an online record store

Let's be honest, browsing through a well designed website full of rare vinyl records online, from the comfort of your own home, is much more convenient than driving to the only record store in the state in the hopes of finding anything of interest.

While we don't want to discount the thrill of the treasure hunt that comes with searching for records in person, we hope you find these five reasons why you should buy vinyl online useful.
